Marea Granate Brighton would like to invite you to the screening of a documentary about the refugee’s drama crossing the Mediterranean Sea in search of a future in Europe. “Astral” focuses on the story of a luxury yacht reconverted to a refugee boat. Provided by the Italian businessman Livio LoMonaco, ‘Astral’ had to be remodeled at a cost of 300,000 euros to get all necessary navigation, rescue and medical care systems required for its new task of vigilance and rescue at sea. Since they set sail in early July towards Central Mediterranean in their new mission, Astral’s crew (volunteer doctors and lifeguards) have cooperate in the rescue of thousands of people off the coast of Libya. On their first day of work Astral rescued 1,400 immigrants. The team of the TV program of La Sexta channel ‘Salvados’, directed by the journalist Jordi Évole, embarked in July 2016 on ‘Astral’ to film the daily lives of the lifeguards of the NGO “Proactiva Open Arms” in its altruistic mission of vigilance and rescue.
